Another 2025 Haunt Sneak Peak

There's rain and cold temps predicted for Thursday and on Halloween. We've already dropped to 30 degrees here the past two nights, so we're hustling to get the haunt 100% set up with the carved jack-o-lanterns on Wednesday so that we can do the "official" haunt photo shoot that evening. We accomplished a lot today and did more lighting tests tonight. There are still a few more items that have to go out and still some adjustments needed, but we're close to the finish line.

A Sneak Peak Of Our 2025 Haunt

Our annual Halloween night yard haunts are getting a bit larger and more complex with lighting effects so we have to start setting up in phases making sure things work as planned and that we don't forget anything (we've forgotten a few odds and ends that were supposed to go into the haunt over the years). The number of things that have to be charged, powered up, switched on, or lit before it gets dark numbers ~ 50. We've gotten around half of the haunt up thus far. Wednesday is jack-o-lantern carving day and we should get the rest of the haunt up on Thursday, but here's a sneak peak of what's in store for Friday night on Halloween.

Halloween 2024 Postmortem

Another Halloween is in the books and it's time to reflect! Every year we try to up our yard haunting game and we think this year's haunt may be one of our best. Weather for a change was fantastic. Temps remained in the low 70s during trick-or-treating last night (extremely rare for western NY) and the rain and wind held off until hours after the last trick-or-treaters arrived. We had 142 trick-or-treaters, a new record for our 15th Halloween in this neighborhood. We were told by numerous visitors that we have the "BEST HOUSE" every Halloween. Also what was extremely gratifying in this age of big box store homogenous Halloween decorating is that people noticed our props and decorations aren't "common". People asked "Where did you get this stuff?" A few noticed that our "Ghostly Blue" skeletons didn't just come off the rack from a store. And despite us dialing back the complexity of our jack-o-lantern carvings this year, people recognized the effort of carving real pumpkins versus buying fake ones off the rack that get reused year after year. That's the true artistry of yard haunting: making it your own, making it unique. We have probably close to 1000 photos from this year's haunt, but after we sort through them, we'll post when they're up on Flickr. A Week Until Showtime

Only a week until All Hallows' Eve! Making a few final preparations before we start doing preliminary haunt setup on Friday/Saturday, pumpkin carving Sunday, prop placement, lighting tests, and final looks on Monday/Tuesday. And of course the weather looks fantastic for this week (70s and dry) and then not so great for this weekend and next week, but we plan exactly for such things. Everything placed beyond our front porch can get rained/snowed on. We'll hopefully have the yard haunt photos up soon after Halloween.

This year's theme was spider based. Because of the house move this year, we were not able to go as full-out as we have in the past few years. We did manage to add a few new props and items, but primarily recycled items that we had from previous haunts with a few tweaks. Enjoy!
