Lucifer's Throne Prop Progress

Started the Lucifer's Throne prop build yesterday and made quite a bit of progress on it, but ran out of boards. The last row of the chair seat needs to be completed, the skull arm rests need to be added, and there are still some wood trim details to add before painting can begin. The resin cast skull decorations will be the final additions to the prop, so there's still quite a ways to go. Part of the goal with the throne is to keep the overall weight down and there are portions of the prop that will be hidden by the robed mannequin sitting on it, so no point making a solid back or solid front throne. And the "Hell Hole" prop still needs its exterior paint coat which still needs to be figured out. We're going to try some test runs of translucent/semi-translucent specialty glass and lens spray paints on small spray foam tester mounds. We're afraid the charcoal and gray "Chalked" spray paints we initially wanted to use may be too opaque for the prop. Still lots to do before end of October, that's why we start these large prop builds for the haunt early and pick away at the mannequins and other decorations all year long. It's a labor of love when it comes to Halloween with us. People have commented on other forums about how great our "small" haunt looks, but we don't think a lot of people truly realize the efforts that go into doing different haunt themes every year. Despite our outdoor haunt space not being a full blown haunted front yard, it still requires a ton of work to make a cohesive looking haunt for the theme of the year. The front yards in our current neighborhood are large and the homes are rather spaced apart, plus a good portion of our street (and our house) is on a hill so we don't all have level front lawns. The kids here don't cross the lawns when they go house to house trick-or-treating, they stick to the street, driveways, and front walkways, so there's no point decorating the entire front lawn for just Halloween night we learned early on here. Plus we don't do the whole month haunt thing. If weather cooperates, we set up the day before to get pictures and tweak things, otherwise the haunt goes up on the day of Halloween!

  1. You put an enormous amount of time into your haunt. As a follower of your blog now for years, I am always amazed at how early you and Mr. Haunted Eve start working on you props.
