Spray foamed the Hell Hole prop today and quickly tested it with the C9 LED orange and red bulb Christmas light stringers and felt they weren't quite powerful enough on their own, especially considering the prop still needs a light spray paint coat on the outside. We tried our battery powered LED puck lights inside as well but they're just not powerful enough for this task. So we pulled out the four color changeable LED outdoor flood lights we purchased from Amazon a couple years ago and hung them up inside the prop and the results were much better, but it was still daylight out and the garage was still rather bright, so we wouldn't know for sure until it was dark out. Since the light stringers had to come out anyway for now, we tested the prop tonight with just the four LED flood lights in the garage in the dark and the prop looks really good with just those alone. We're still going to use the light stringers with the floods because they will help up lite the skeleton props coming out of the hell hole opening. We're going to make a few mini mounds of spray foam to do some spray paint tests before we commit to a spray paint technique on the actual prop. Thinking we're most likely going to have to spray downward from above on a step ladder, and not perpendicular to the prop. We don't want to fill in the nooks and crannies with paint.

How large is that Hell hole? It seems to be dwarfing the saw horses it is on.
ReplyDeleteThe outer base is ~ 4 feet in diameter, and with the spray foam the height is ~ 18 inches. Opening ~ 20 inches in diameter.
DeleteThat looks stunning! I can almost feel the heat. Can't wait to see the final project when complete.
