Scrooge in Hell
Mr. Haunted Eve loves Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol because it embodies all the same spooky elements that he loves about Halloween. Mr. Haunted Eve's favorite movie version of this story is 1970's Scrooge starring Albert Finney. During the mid to late 70s, all the TV edits of this movie that he first saw cut out the "Scrooge in Hell" scenes. The later released DVD and Blu-ray versions restored the hell scenes. There are lots of fantastic details, like tormented faces in the stalactites and stalagmites.

Pike House Coffee: Poe Meets Scrooge
Mrs. Haunted Eve discovered Pike House Coffee in Johnson City, TN today. It's got an Edgar Allen Poe meets Ebenezer Scrooge vibe for December. Merry Creepmas!

Gadzooks!
Christmas fired a shot over the bow of Halloween today! September 15th and Von Maur department store has pretty much scuttled the Halloween merchandise (pushed off to a tiny section to the right in the below picture). We haven't even put up the "pre-haunt" decorations on the house yet!😬

Miser Brothers
Didn't know this even existed until tonight. From a 2006 live action version of A Year Without A Santa Claus with Harvey Fierstein as Heat Miser and Michael McKean as Snow Miser. Those two characters always had an elemental netherworldly vibe to them, e.g. "Creepmas".

Lussinatten🕯️
December 13th marks the festival of Saint Lucia. But it is also a celebration for her lesser known counterpart, the witch Lussi. According to the old Julian calendar, the night between December 12th and December 13th was the longest night of the year, historically what Norwegians called Lussinatten. Between Lussi Night & Yule, trolls, elves, witches, & evil spirits were thought to be active outside as depicted in Nils Bergslien's 1922 painting "Julereia". It was believed to be particularly dangerous to be out during Lussi Night. According to tradition, children who had done mischief had to take special care, since Lussi could come down through the chimney & take them away, & certain tasks of work in the preparation for Yule had to be finished, or else Lussi would come to punish the household.

Merry Creepmas!
For this Creepmas we want to share the entire playlist for the Macabre London YouTube channel's Abhorrent Advent Calendar. We've shared numerous videos from this series for Creepmas in the past, but this series is so well done that we felt that it deserved to be showcased in its entirety and hope our blog readers enjoy these videos as much as we do at this time of year.

Halloween Sculpture
One of our purchases from the Nightmare Before Christmas Market at Artisan Works was a hand sculpted ceramic sugar skull jack-o-lantern made by local Rochester, NY artist Jason Ferguson. His table had many unique ceramic jack-o-lanterns to choose from, but this one really spoke to us. You can tell from the artist's Instagram that he truly loves Halloween!

Artisan Works Nightmare Before Christmas Market
We went to the Nightmare Before Christmas Market at Artisan Works in Rochester, NY today. Artisan Works is a renovated factory building event space that houses multidisciplinary works of art. In the spirit of The Nightmare Before Christmas, you had to choose whether to enter the Christmas Town door or the Halloween Town door (two separate buildings). On the Halloween side we got to meet The Smell Of Fear Candle Company owner from Buffalo, NY in person for the first time today. She's been making custom scented candles for our haunt jack-o-lanterns since 2021.

Merry Creepmas!
Merry Creepmas! Um, we mean "Happy Día de Muertos!" Well at least the snow held off here until this morning. Unlike Buffalo, who got the snow during trick-or-treat hours last night. Going to make cleaning up the haunt way more daunting. Ugh!

Creepmas Got Bounced
Really surprised to see Valentine's Day décor already supplanting Christmas décor at a local Home Goods. However, found these "vintage cartoon spider mugs" worthy of a post. With a little online sleuthing the mug appears to be done by Johanna Parker Designs. She does some really nice looking vintage Halloween designs and there's a 2023 collection coming.
