    I have never watched a Hallmark movie - are they really this insipid?

      Yes, the majority are that bad. Every now and then they manage to make a good Christmas movie. And those usually involve magic/fantasy elements, e.g. the whimsical ones. The problem is their movies are like "Mad Libs", pretty much always the same script, they just change the town's and the characters' names.
